About Dorrance Dance
Founded in 2011 by MacArthur Fellow Michelle Dorrance, Dorrance Dance is an award-winning New York City–based company that shares the extraordinary range of tap dance through performance and education. Known for its ensemble of dancer-musicians, the company explores contemporary tap dance as both movement and music while honoring the complex history and powerful legacy of this Black American art form. Rooted in improvisation, innovation, and an unconquerable respect for tap dance’s traditions and possibilities, Dorrance Dance creates work that engages audiences on both a musical and emotional level.
