Arts Impact Collaborative presents
We Lift Each Other
Mon, Nov 10 • 7pm
In celebration of Veterans Day, Arts Impact Collaborative is proud to present the Community First premiere screening of We Lift Each Other, a documentary film featuring the North Carolina-based modern dance company Black Box Dance Theatre and their work with Asheville veterans in the summer of 2023, which culminated in a moving public performance at the Wortham Center.
Under the artistic direction of Michelle Pearson, the Black Box dancers travel across North Carolina, employing the art of modern dance to build community and foster resilience. Working primarily with active-duty military and their families, veterans, and individuals coping with PTSD, the company harnesses the simple but transformative power of modern dance to create spaces for collective expression and the healing of trauma.
We Lift Each Other is part of the groundbreaking new documentary anthology I Feel Myself To Be Part of Something, which explores the impact of the arts in America. The films in the series take viewers on a journey across the country, highlighting a range of art forms, communities, and programs to capture a rich and vibrant portrait of the essential role the arts play in our lives.
Please join us for a Red Carpet Reception at 6:00 PM in the lobby of the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts . Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, and photos before the screening, which will begin at 7:00 PM. We invite you to engage in conversation with the dancers, veterans, and filmmakers before and after the screening—an opportunity to share reflections, ask questions, and connect through the stories and artistry that make this work so meaningful.
