“Unsupervised & Dehydrated”: Comedian Karen Morgan plays the Wortham, April 17

Posted on April 14, 2025

Karen Morgan Comedy. As seen on CBS, SiriusXM, Dry Bar Comedy, AXS TV, HuffPost, The Washington Post, Insider, and Nick @ Nite.

Laugh out loud with us when stand-up comedian Karen Morgan brings her Unsupervised & Dehydrated Comedy Tour to the Wortham, Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. (originally scheduled for Sept. 26).

A former trial attorney, Karen is known for her clean, observational and relatable humor. Her comedy reflects on her experiences as a wife, mother and member of Generation-X, offering a nostalgic look at growing up in an era before the internet — when rocks were pets, carpets were shag and bicycle seats were bananas.

Learn more about Karen in the Q&A below — and don’t miss this night of laughs!

Q&A with Karen Morgan

Q: What first got you into stand-up comedy? How did you go from trial attorney to comic? Was there a specific moment when you realized comedy was more than just a hobby?
Karen Morgan: There was phase in between called “having 3 kids in just over 3 years.” Motherhood led to the comedy path. My first real experience was as a finalist on Nick at Nite’s “Search for the Funniest Mom in America.”

Q: What’s your favorite part about being on stage?
KM: Connecting with the audience.

Q: How do you come up with your material—do you write every day, or wait for inspiration?
KM: Everyday life is a great inspiration, so I don’t really keep “writer’s hours.”

Q: What’s something people misunderstand about being a stand-up comic?
KM: People assume comics are always cracking jokes in everyday life. I’m actually pretty introverted & quiet.

Q: Who were your biggest comedic influences growing up?
KM: My Dad. I enjoyed watching Johnny Carson, SNL & SCTV with him as a kid.

Q: What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you at a show?
KM: Having to sit behind a curtain for a long time in a theater because there was no back stage — just a wall.

Q: What can your Asheville audience expect from your show?
KM: Clean comedy with a lot of nostalgia!

Q: Will this be your first time to Asheville?
KM: I love Asheville! I was in the Asheville Comedy Festival many years ago. My mother also grew up in Burnsville. It’s a beautiful area.
