About the instructor: Louisa Parker is a dancer and visual artist with an interest in garment and costume design. She received her first 15 years of dance training at Boston Ballet School, and continued expanding her dance education at Bennington College where she received a BA in Dance, Sculpture and Garment Design. Louisa studied Butoh under Kota Yamasaki and Mina Nishimura, where she was introduced to the complex network of physical storytelling. Inspired by the connectivity of material on the body and its effect on physicality, Louisa produced a 10-piece line of wearable paper, tyvek and ceramic garments that informed a physical vocabulary on the wearer. Louisa also toured with the Bread and Puppet theater company, performing as a physical actor, puppeteer and musician. Most recently, Louisa worked on a community farm in Vermont where she balanced her love of dance with her passion for living closely with the land. Louisa is inspired to lead students through creative movement exploration, and is excited to share her teaching with students of all ages and abilities in the Asheville community.
