Parts Play
Fri – Sun, May 1 – 3 • 7 pm
Sun, May 3 • 1 pm
A new production based on the Internal Family Systems model of the psyche, “Parts Play” tells the story of Lena, a young and passionate artist, and her inner muse. As they inevitably encounter the demands of the real world, her inner parts end up in a protective struggle between perfectionism, nihilism, and spiritual bypassing to deal with the trade-offs she feels she must make. Themes of creative loss and reclamation, shame and survival in capitalism, and family loyalty invite the audience to reflect on their own parts and their relationship to creative innocence and authenticity. Humorous, witty, heartfelt, and sharp, this piece of theater is a “theraplay” for the current moment.
