Wortham Classes
Stretch for Longevity
Thu, Jul 23, 2026 • 9:45 am • 60 min
Henry LaBrun Studio
Instructor: Kimberly Vasileva
This class approaches stretching as an active, embodied practice—not just static positions. Through guided movement, mobility work, strengthening, and breath, participants will explore flexibility as sustainable, responsive, and connected to the whole body, drawing on somatic practices, Alexander Technique, and improvisation. Rather than chasing external shapes, the class emphasizes curiosity, efficiency, and awareness—building a more informed relationship to range of motion, alignment, and ease.
Class may move through chair, standing and floor work — including spirals, articulation, active flexibility training, joint mobility, and static stretching for recovery. Modifications will be offered throughout to support a wide range of bodies and experience levels, meeting each mover where they are while creating room to grow.

About the instructor
Kimberly Vasileva is an American-Bulgarian choreographer, dance artist, and educator in Asheville, North Carolina.
Kimberly holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Performance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, a contemporary dance diploma from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and was an Emerging Choreographer Fellow in the 2025 Aimed Dance Summerfest. Kimberly has choreographed original works varying in size and style, including XOPO, a large ensemble piece celebrating Romani and Balkan music, culture, and dance. She has performed repertory by José Limón, Laila J. Franklin, Danae and Dionysios, and Kurt Douglas.
Kimberly is a certified instructor in Pilobolus’s Connecting with Balance and Bounce Back curricula. She has taught ballet, modern, jazz, lyrical, and tap to students ranging from early childhood to adolescence at studios including United Talent Dance, New Studio of Dance, and Momentum Dance. She assisted with Step by Step, a dance and social skills program for people with autism, and served as a teacher and facilitator for Movement Matters, an outreach program inspired by Mark Morris’s Dance for Parkinson’s, leading adaptive movement classes in retirement and assisted living communities.
Kimberly believes the most meaningful learning happens when students are given space to listen, question, and discover through movement. Her teaching emphasizes curiosity, embodied awareness, and the quiet rigor of returning to a practice with patience, commitment, and care.
