The Wortham Center’s residency programs strengthen engagement between artists and audiences through extended opportunities for outreach, creation and community connection. Artists-in-residence participate in season-long residency periods with multiple opportunities for learning, engagement, workshops and performances.
Stewart/Owen Dance
Stewart/Owen Dance is a professional company committed to furthering contemporary dance through classes, community education, and innovative performances and events. Wortham Center 2024/2025 Artists in Residence
Otto Vazquez
Otto Vazquez is a prolific street dancer, choreographer, published author and poet, filmmaker, and grand educator who has taught at over 100 universities both in the United States and abroad. This season, Otto will be partnering with Wortham Center to offer education and community engagement programs. His production company, Nu Paradigm, will also present events in the Diana Wortham Theatre. Otto Vazquez’s website
Asheville Creative Arts
Asheville Creative Arts provides high quality, professional theatre, performance, and arts experiences to audiences of all ages. This season, ACA presents Petit Mondrian, a 20-minute immersive theatrical experience, culminating in 10-minutes of unstructured play for ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Inspired by the shapes and colors of the work of modernist painter Piet Mondrian, Petit Mondrian is created, directed and with puppet design and construction by Edwin Salas Acosta.
